Admiralty Pier - Dover

A tremendously fierce tide flow is a feature of the Admiralty

A first for me this one, as I had never previously fished the Admiralty pier. I have Stuart to thank for floating the idea, and I must admit I left feeling quite impressed with the place. First thing that struck me was the fierce tidal flow. Luckily, I had plenty of D-Grippers with me, as it is also a bit on the snaggy side. We walked passed the first section and halfway out onto the second section. Stuart set up thrity yards further up than me. Unfortunately, his first four casts resulted in lost tackle, as his line was rubbing something sharp when he let out a bow of line. He moved inshore, to lose two more sets, before returning to his car to set up some more rigs. I was more fortunate, and only once did I get that nexplicable twang. I lost another set when an unseen item colided with my line, and with the fierce flow I couldnt hold it. 99% certain it wasnt a fish, which is why I didnt slip the drag.

Turnstones are more and more to be found scavenging anglers favourite haunts.

The fierce tide screamed cod, but the problem today was the water was not very coloured at all. A few whiting made their presence known, and after about two hours fishing, I finally got a slack liner as something broke the D-Gripper out. A smallish codling (returned) that the tide made feel twice as big.

"Addy" Codling

As I was fishing I noticed a red and white plane flying along the coast towards me. As it got closer I recognised the plane as a chap I interact with on worldseafishing.com. Nice to meet you, Flying Fisherman.......

Flying Fisherman heads towards Dover.

About this time Stuart came back out. Two casts, and he lost them both. He reeled in and returned to the car. We all have one of those days, this one was definately his, and I thnk I would have packed up as well. I carried on for a little while, but as the light failed, the tide had slackened right off and the dogfish were coming on the feed. Time to go home. But I will be back! I like a challenge, and I feel this spot has a few up its sleeve.

Dogfish means time to go........
