27th July - Daytime - Selsey West Beach

Barrie at West beach

DVice partner and friend Barry, showing how to fish the weed at west beach

With the hounds showing strongly at night and even in daylight the day before, the opportunity to catch a decent hound in daylight proved too much, and saw Lee, myself and Barry assembling at West beach full of anticipation. Had we set off a little later we would have seen on the Worldseafishing.com forum that those who had fished the previous night had found the hounds had vanished, which is often the case when they have emptied a beach of the food source!!

Beach buddy

Original John Holden beach buddy. 20 years old, and didnt budge even when taking them over the top.

We persevered, and had the hounds shown, we would have caught them. But they didnt, and we returned to East Sussex fishless. A real shame for Lee, as weed had messed up an attempt for a big spikey the night before. All of this fishing was as a result of a blown off boat trip on "Moonshine", and with the forecast no better for the following day, it was a drive with a heavy heart.

27th Night - Tidemills

My only fish of the night

My only fish of the session

After such a dissapointing session, I happily took up Simons offer of a trip to Tidemills for some spikey action. The scene of Simons personal best capture a fortnight earlier, should the big ones not put in a an appearance, the wee ones would at least provide some action. And that was abuot the size of it, although Simons brother Alan managed one of 45cm, perfect for the pot.
