22nd September - River Ouse, Southwick Beaches and more Rough ground

Swells on the river

Big swells ruin the river fishing!!

Back on the river, to see if the better fish were hiding up there, on arrival we were unfortunate to find the stiff SW wind had rendered float control almost impossible. A real shame, as there were plenty of fry and some great bursts of fish, but after persevering for a couple of hours, we acknowledged defeat and returned to Brighton.

For the evening session, we elected to fish the surf beaches of southwick over the low tide. The pumping was awkward, the high pressure driving the worms deep underground, but I managed enough to keep us fishing. And even with a few fish. Only schoolies and a single eel, but at least there was something playing ball for all the efforts invested.

Then, with a now coloured sea, after a very nice dinner in a local indian restaurant, we once more trudged out onto the rough. Surely the coloured sea would break the cycle, and put the bass back onto the beach in scavenger mode.....?? Well, absolutely not. Another four hours without a take. Its becoming glarigly obvious that I need to put in some mileage to find some fish, as it is becoming apparent there arent many about on Brighton's beaches at the moment.

Alan and Brian, with the biggest bass seen this session

Alan and Brian, with the biggest bass seen this session......

So it was back to the bungalow with the bitter taste of failure in my mouth. Very frustrating, especially after such a mammoth investment of time and effort by Alan and Brian. I'm suprised they didnt throw my carving of an American Largemouth Bass at me, when I suggested they pose with it for a photo.......!
