East arm - Float and prawn

Flashback - Feb 2007

Flashback - Kingston Beach 2007

Its always flattering to get returning clients, especially after they endured a session to test the most patient of Saints, that culminated in a rockling scratching session on Kingston beach, on a bleak and blustery February day. So, I thought I would pull all the stops out and arrange a float and prawn session on the marina, on a much more favourable warm June day. We met up and strolled out on to the arm. Conditions were actually pretty good, but it has to be said the fishing was less than inspiring. Prawns still havent really thickened up on the reef, and I am guessing the reason that the float and prawn fishing has been a shadow of its potential that we have experienced in recent years.

Matt n Wrasse

Matt with a tidy wrasse

Not altogether a wash out, there were some wrasse in a feeding mood. The one above was caught by trip organiser Matt. Interestingly, in the light of recent forum banter about catch and release survival rates, the fish is parrot mouthed due to poor unhooking. But more importantly, it survived that and the release, and the damage looked to be a good year or more old, so the fish had no problems in feeding.

The merry band will be dismantling later this year, as Matt goes off on travels through the Southern Hemisphere (If I were 20 years younger, I would pack a travel rod and tag along......!!) It has become my mission to find him a tidy spiky before he departs in September. Watch this space............
