19th October - Surfing with Mick

Mick in the Surf

Mick in the surf

Out with a payoff for one of my vegetable boxes with Mick the vegetable box man. With the wind finally turning up, it was looking promising for a session on the surf beaches. But, even as Mick was arriving at the bungalow, the wind was swinging to the kiss of death Easterly position, where it sits as I write this. This created cracking surf on the beach, but the fish were very slow to respond. Starting off with live crab, just one take before darkness. The worm were reasonably tricky to pump, but I did get enough to keep Mick fishing.

It took darkness and worm to persuade the only fish of the session to come to the shingle, a scholie about a pound. I think you can tell just how chilly it was by how well Mick is buried in his floatation suit. A pretty poor session, but plenty more to come, Mick, you just got to keep the faith!
