Tub Gurnard
Probably my second most favourite match of the year this one. Always excellently organised, and more importantly well fed, it also raises money for some excellent charities. The venue was once again the excellent Widewater beach, and the curse of this match seems to be that it is always stunning weather, with crystal clear seas that seem to befall the event. This makes for some ultra hard fishing, which reflected on the returns with a lot of blank cards. It is events like these that every fish counts, and I fished hard to find one Tub Gurnard (pictured) and two mackerel. Not enough to see me on the winners podium, but I was just very pleased not to have blanked!!

Paul Robinson receives first prize
The eventual winner was very experienced local match angler Paul Robinson, who performed superbly to amass a bag consisting of several tub gurnard, and I believe Golden grey mullet, which had mostly been conspicuous by their absence. On receiving the winners prize, Paul then very selfishley donated the winnings to the nominated charities. Well done Paul, for both a stunning performance and having a very big heart, especially in these cash strapped times.
I met up with Phil a little before midnight, having first secured a bucket of live pout, and we headed East, in an attempt to find where the fish were hiding. We gave them a very good working over, and moved around a bit, working hard to locate a silver bar. But the bass were not to be found. A few flashes in the distance soon became a very close storm, stunning with multiple lightning strikes over the sea, but potentially very dangerous when waving twelve foot of carbon lightning conductor in the air. With rain also threataning, we agreed to abandon the session, and do it all again at a later date. The rain became heavy as we drove off back to Brighton. A very good call.....!!
