18th October - Anything with Alan

With clear water and cephalods making the bass fishing at best patchy, I was at a bit of a loss as to what to do with regular client Alan. On very big tides, we decided to go east and take a look for a cod on the beaches of Eastbourne, with the chance of a sole as backup, and a livebait deployed in the hope that the squid werent that far east.

We were doomed from the start. The joy of engineering works on a Sunday meant that Alan arrived later than the plan had margin for. The beach we were fishing shows cod mostly on the fierce early flood. As the flow backs off, so do the chances of a coddie. This is the second time this year IU have fished this beach, and for the second time this year, first cast the tip bent nicely into a good flow, the live crab bait in with every chance of being snatched by the bearded one. But for the second time this year, even before the second rod was deployed, the tip on the first gently came back, as the flow rapidly subsided to nothing.

THe sole rod was deployed, and saved a blank with a few pouting and some whiting. Pouting were deployed on the livebait rig, and resulted in one bait snatched off, but if by bass or by squid I'm not sure. ALl in all, the session was lacklustre, as sterile as the tap water clear seas felt. Alan's back again Tuesday. Lests hops with a breeze forecast things will be a bit better then!
