When it all comes together..... My catch of Spring run codling at Dengie
After the success of the previous night, I spent the evening pumping some more fresh blacks, and met with Dave just outside Pevensey. Also along for this trip was Brighton Marina warden Keith, a Deungeness virgin. Indeed, this was his first time fishing for cod of the shore. Returning to the same area as the previous night, we in fact walked another 500 yards further on. Not another soul to be seen, and with the wind blowing Northerly, and a shingle bank between us and it, it was really very comfortable indeed. The sea had flattened right off compared to the previous night, and I was worried it would be a whiting fest. Neednt have though, as on my third cast came my first codling. I then proceeded to have a further six up to high tide. A better stamp of fish than the previous night, nothing under 2.5lb's. Keith came wandering over and was suprised. Dave had caught two so far. I gave Keith a big handful of freshouts and suggested he and Dave give them a try. On the ebb, I had a further two fish. But for Dave and Keith the freshout worm made all the difference, Dave ending up with seven, Keith with three, and his shore codling cherry broken. What a difference a juicy freshout can make...!!
