Alex with his first Garfish
Regualar clients Mike, Ray and Alex were back in town. Alex had mentioned several times earlier in the year that he would really like to catch garfish. I had managed to put him off, on the promise that the autumnal gathering of Garfish on our coast is spectacular, and there would be plenty of fish for him to catch. Well, its autumn, the garfish have thickened up, and it was time to go catch them. I set Alex up first and cast him out, with instruction on what to do when the float moves. Started threading up Mikes rod, and Alex had caught his first garfish!!

Mike and Garfish
This was rather the way the session was to be. I struggled between gars to get Mike fishing, and that doubly slowed down getting Ray's rod together, as Garfish and the odd mackerel came one after the other.

Alex double shotting Gar's
Not just one after another in fact, as the gars were there in such good numbers that double shotting them wasnt a problem!!

Eventually, even Alex was wondering about other species. Wrasse was another one that he wanted to tick off his species list, and with s few worms along for the ride, I set him up on a down the wall rig. Two casts, and two species of wrasse covered, BAllan and Corkwing

And so the session went on. Plenty of fish, lots of action. I even managed to secure some live pout for that nights bass fishing. But the most unusual catch of the day has to go to Alex. This was a genuine capture, to size six hooks and ragworm bait. Maybe crab will see some bigger ones..........

Alex with balloon fish.........
With the pouting livebaits secured from the earlier session, it was back to Seaford bay for the chance of spikeys. Ultra clear seas meant that the livebaits were by far the most likely form of attack to work. But it wasnt to be. There were some strange runs on the pout, but I suspect cuttle fish or squid were responsible. End result, no bass for Phil........ :(
