10th September -Float and Prawn on the marina

Nice to finally see a spikey!!

Nice to finally see a spikey....!!

With another bass session booked, I didnt want to take Mick back to the rough ground, as it was apparent the fish werent playing to my rough ground techniques. I suggested we have a look for them with the float and prawn technique. With a stiff North Easterly wind blowing, the seas were crystal clear, and I felt the delicate approach of small hooks, fleurocarbon, and something lively like a prawn might grab their attention. I showed Mick the rig, and explained how we would have to cast and control the float to defy the harsh breeze. Mission was acomplished on about the second run through, with the unmistakable sight of a float burying to the pull of a speeding bass resulting in a bass on the bank!! A very welcome sight after recent hard times!!

Anotehr fine spikey for Mick

Another fine spikey for Mick

But in actual fact, depite the wind making for very difficult float control, Mick fished it well, and the day turned into a bit of a red letter day, especially after the bass drought of recent days. The float burying at speed was a routine sight, as the bass were very obviously on the reef and in the mood for prawns this day.

And another.....!!

And another.....!!

Indeed, the final tally for Mick's session was ten fish hooked, seven landed, with three fish over 40cm. OF the three lost fish, I would guestimate that two were better fish, at least of the 3lb+ stamp.

Its not all big fish.......

Its not all big fish......!!

It was a very enjoyable session. Mick is a lovely guy, who has certainly lived a bit, and I look forward to our next session together. In my world, the cashless society is king. Whilst fishing with Mick, we somehow got onto the subject of vegetables, and I mentioned the terrible troubles I had this year with my strawberries and a battle with bugs. He mentioned he enjoys as a hobby making vegetable boxes, planters, that kind of thing. I am now the proud owner of one of these boxes, which I have to say are the bees knees, and far superior workmanship than I expected, and in return Mick is off out with me in the near future to pursue an outsized bass during the night. If only the whole world operated so simply!!!!
