Return to Dengemarsh.......

Bright moon and calm but heavily coloured seas at Dengie
With the big wind having blown overnight Monday night, and a forecast for the wind to drop off and swing North Westerly, the conditions were about perfect, with the biggish tides as well, for a foray to Kentish shores in pursuit of Mr Coddie. Only question was, would Mr Coddie still be there, as we are seeing seasonal changes on a daily basis now. I popped down to the local beach to see if I could pump enough worms for the session. The pumping was easy, and in an hour and a half I had over 70 big worms. Headed back to the bungalow, grabbed my tackle and headed off.

2lb 9oz Dengie Coddie
After struggling with the long walk from the car, I arrived to find Dave Grinham (tackle Box) KJ (tackle Box) and Daves mate Ian, already there. They had been fishing for half an hour, and as yet only whiting. I walked past them all, and set in on the end. I baited up, cast out both rods, and walked up to Dave for a chat, to find he had two fish on the beach. I returned quickly to my rods. After about thrity minutes, and on the second cast, a firm bite produced a fish of 2lb 9oz

2lb 14oz
Next cast, a firm bite, fish on. But only for about sixty yards, as everything went light, and the fish was no more. It was another hour before I got another chance, and this time the 2lb 14oz fish stayed on. And that was my last cod bite for the night

Ian and 7lb 5oz cod.
Dave went on to take five similar sized fish in total. KJ missed out, and Ian had a cracking session. Only three fish, but they were weighed by him at 7lb 5oz, 4lb 10oz and 3lb 8oz. Quality fishing for mid March.

Shrimps and small dabs, and not a sprat or crab in sight. The stomache contents of a dengie cod.
