3.5lb Seaford Spikey

3.5lb Seaford Spikey

A blustery wind, and no clients, saw me meet up with fellow spikey enthusiast Craig and return to the shingle at Seaford. Livebaits deployed with difficulty in the swells, and more faith in the margin baits. We fished the flood, with no excitement, and towards the top of the tide Craig had to be sensible and depart, as he had a full working day to deal with in the morning. Even as I still heard his car moving off, the first take came. But I had become depondent and a little chilly, and was fishing the rod in the rest. It was such a shock I didnt put my thumb on the spool to strike, and the drag slackened sppol just spun into nothing. By the time I had reeled up the slack and got to the weight, the fish was long since departed. Re-baiting, I took to holding the rod, in anticipation for further action. Normally, this of course results in no further action and very cold hands, but on this occasion just five minutes later the rod tip pulled down nicely, and this time the fish was far less lucky, as I was ready, keyed up, and bang on with the strike. 3.5lb of spikey on the beach. I fished for another hour, but that was the only action, and after a long session, I was happy to retire to bed.
