John and hound

John's first double of the evening, 12lb 4 I seem to recall

On this session, I had a client drop out last minute. I offered it up, and John and his girlfriend Pippa took up the call, driving down from Essex for the event. We headed down west and began getting set up. Even before we had Pippa's rod set up, a scream from Pippa who was looking after Johns rod whilst we tackled up, and a screaming clutch, alerted John to the fact that he had a fish on. First fish of the night, and a double. Good start...!!

Pippa's biggest ever fish!

Pippa's biggest ever fish, 12lb exactly!!

Next away was Pippa. She was bent into what looked like a very good fish, but she didnt panic at all. Playing it carefully, when eventually it was beached it weighed in at 12lb, and is Pippa's biggest fish to date. It really made her night, and although she was unlucky that no further fish fell to her rods, it didnt matter to her one bit after that fish.

Moon rise

Moon rise - The signal for hounds to feed!

As the moon rose, an eery copper colour, it was the signal for the hounds to feed proper. I had my first one of the evening, about 6 or 7lbs. John had another double, I had a couple of 4lb fish!! Then John took a bit longer getting one in.......

The fish he landed after a very powerful fight, was the 14lb 4oz fish proudly held by John above. A cracking fish, it is the largest fish by a client so far this year!

A double for me.... 11b 6oz

A double for me.... 11lb 6oz

With the tide approaching high, the weed got up a bit, but the odd bite was still to be had. I finally got a double with this 11lb 6oz fish, my last fish of the night. John had one more, about 8lb. Nine fish, five doubles, to three rods (I only ever use one rod when hounding). Not a bad nights fishing!! All fish fell to a D-Breakout sheltering an Essex crinklie on a running paternoster, 3/0 Viking and 50lb trace.
