6th October - Bassing with Keith

Bass make you smile

Bass make you smile!!

Met up with Keith and we headed firstly to the surf, where a nice surf pushing into a gulley gave us a very good opportunity for a spikey or two. Pumping was once again difficult, but enough were extracted to keep Keith fishing. And with some result, although none of the table fish we were hoping for. With the flooding tide pushing us back onto the beach, it was time to change marks, and have a look for some rough ground spikeys.

Unfortunately the bass were not obliging along the rough ground, as has often been the case this year. But, not all was lost as a table fish came our way in the form of this huge eel. Keith was very keen to sample the rich delights of eel flesh, so I stored it in the cool box, and put something weighty on the lid. Five minutes later, with rods back out to sea again, we decided to examine Keiths prize in more detail. But near 3lb of muscle should never be underestimated, as I learnt this evening. The wriggler had managed to force open the fish box, drop into a gutter, and pop through a sea wall drainage hole back to the sea........... Oops...!!
