With a proposed tope trip coming up on Monday, I needed to go get some eels. I bought a dozen peeler crab and some black lug, and looked for some dirty water around the marina. Result!! A fresh westerly wind meant that the West arm (the one with my Cafe on it) was actually closed for fishing on the main structure, as the waves were whipping up and crashing onto the fishing areas. This meant two things. 1) Wont be opening the cafe today. Bad for business, but it did mean I had all day to go fishing. 2) Lots of dirty water right outside the cafe. So, I cancelled the staff for the day, and set up outside. I fished two rods, with two single hook pulley rigs, as the ground is very rough but I find I can fish right into the rough with minimal tackle losses with the pulley rig. Hooks were size 2 BLN3261 aberdeens, with one rig being cast eighty yards from the shore and one with black lug cast into the gulley where the beach levels out. End result, three good bait eels, and a pouting. I missed two cracking takes from the rod which was cast up the beach, which I'm sure were bass, but I wont know for sure.
Sunday
I also fished Sunday for two hours, again after more eels. Nothing, not even a bite, despite the coloured water and bigger tides. The marina is very different on every tide, and this was a classic example.
