27th May 2004 - River Ouse

Weather - Clear skies. Light easterly wind

Had a look at the Marina and beach at 05:00 this morning. Didnt even get the rods out of the car. Small tides and no big seas for about a month now, means the may weed is really bad now. As a result there arent any whitebait and very few mackerel, which means the bassing isnt what it should be. So, HI ho and off to work I went. Got back from the city and headed up to the Ouse again. Set up for mullet, but got the tides all wrong. Must remember that the top of the tide up there is later than Newhaven! Fed a loaf anyway. Saw a fish top in a very splashy fashion, but put that down to a bass as there was a few fry moving around. The only definate mullet I saw was as I was packing up, about 21:00, just as the tide was dropping to the level that they usually show there, so I think I will have another ago on the weekend, as Fiona is off to Glasgow and the marina is very busy on the weekends now. Crabbed for half an hour, and managed about a dozen of medium size. Worth going just for them, plus the lovely sunsets!
