2nd June 2004 - Brighton Marina

Weather -Overcast. Fresh NW wind

Marina again. And fish soup!! Got there at low tide, to be greeted by a small sea trout jumping out. Put down a crab rod for pouting for live bait, and fished float and prawn on the other rod. Caught a couple of pouting, and then a shoal of mackerel turned up. Feathered up half a dozen and put them down in the drop net to keep them alive. Swapped the crab rod for a live mackerel rig, thinking that with so many mackerel about the bigger bass would be chasing them. Wrong!! Caught a pollock on the float and prawn, and was then pestered by line bites on the float rod from the amount of mackerel around. Got difficult to see what was a bite and what was mackerel hitting the swivel! Then the float buried and didnt come up, bass of about 1.5lb. Put it back (no picture as it was deeply hooked and I wanted to get it back quickly). Then I hooked another two in succesion, but hook pulled on both. Checked hook, all ok. Missed the next two bites, then landed another of about the same size (returned). One more pollock, then, ran out of light!! Gutted I have to work and cant fish tomorrows tide in daylight, as I never even got to fish the ebb which is often when the bigger fish show on this spot. No fishing tomorrow, as even I have to do housework at some point, and I'm taking two of my colleague's on to Moonshine on Friday. Both newbies to the sport, so I will have my work cut out there.
